If you or a covered dependent lose your group coverage with Bedford City School District, in most cases you would be eligible for COBRA continuation coverage. Bedford City School District contracts with a company called BBP Administrators that manages COBRA on their behalf. After your last day of employment is added to Employee Navigator (Bedford City School District administrative staff does this), you will automatically receive a packet in the mail with COBRA information from BBP. The same would apply if one of your dependents loses coverage due to your retirement or if they turn 26.
The COBRA packet will include the cost for coverage, a form to complete if you or your dependent want to sign up for coverage, and contact information. If you have questions prior to receiving the information in the mail, including the cost of coverage, feel free to contact BBP directly at 630-775-8551 or support@bbpadmin.com.
The good news is that COBRA always takes effect the very next day following the end of employer-based coverage. Even though it may take a little time to complete and return the paperwork, your insurance coverage will not have any gaps or lapses if you enroll in COBRA.
